This was the first time we had ever lined up as a Latte team and a few nerves were creeping into a few pain caves in the days running up to the race. Chatter is always high in the owls camp through the week and we were really pleased that
Andy Hopkins agreed to ride with us this week giving us 1 B, 5Cs and 1D. Now you may think that wasn’t the line up you might normally see in Latte but owls are born with the hearts of lions and amazing things were bound to happen.
Now no race is complete without difficulty or two and we had our fair share. We lost
Sarah Mimnagh at the start, now this was clearly our fault not hers and we had allowed her to turn up on a TT bike and all the difficulties they present. I’m sure she’ll be back next week raring to go
Due to a number of attempted video calls from my lad I dropped off by 8 seconds but thankfully managed to get myself back on.
We beat 32 other Latte teams!! The number who beat us is slightly higher but we’ll be beating two more next week and a few more the week after.
We pulled hard from the start with Andy Hopkins leading the way. It was full-on from the start which caused a few difficulties getting a good line but we continued to push and suddenly our D rider Sandy Power was on the front, where did she get that strength from? Just amazing!
We continued around the largely flat course and everyone did their bit, Kirsten Storm helping to pull the hills Heidi sweeping assisted by the irrepressible Ally Mooney riding for the first of two TTTs in the same day
The big news for Owls this week is that we are now 6Cs. Sandy had an FTP increase of an amazing 9 watts taking her from 177 to 186 and catapulting her into the pirate ship
On Heidi’s behalf, thank you owls for an amazing performance everyone – you smashed it
We are looking to recruit some permanent Bs to our squad so anyone who feels they might have the wings of an owl and the heart of a lion please jump on board
