Cryo-Gen WTRL Team Time Trial Latte Emus On Richmond UCI Reverse 2 Laps
This weeks “Emus” were:
- Martin Ashton
- Meinte Martijn Vd Schaaf
- Philip Rowe
- Stuart Hawkins
- Geoffrey Dutton
The Emus were starting with a strong team of 5 riders. Due to holiday season, we didn’t have our captain Duncan and “the Hermannator” Matthew Herman, also Julia was flying with the Buzzards this week in the Premier League. Luckily Martin Ashton was added to the mob. The Emus were again decorated with black socks!
Also, my debut as a temporary captain was this week and I hoped to do fine.
The route was the Richmond UCI Reverse 2 Laps with a couple of steep short climbs in each lap. A course which was announced the hardest TTT course that WTRL had offered to date, but the Emus loved the challenge!
Our start time was +7.5 which gave us a good time discussing the plan before the race.
We had no technical issues and made a fantastic start getting off the line together well.
Before the race, we expected to do well as a strong tiny Team. The plan was to be steady paced and keeping together which we achieved really well and taking turns on the front.
Some great turns by all on the front, and some strong individual efforts leading the pack. Big massive shout out to Geoffrey Dutton who dug up some real wattage and getting him bumped up to B cat. Well done mate. Really appreciate the effort! Our newcomer Martin Ashton proofed himself by doing massive pulls on the straights and also on the climbs.
On the second lap, we, unfortunately, lost Philip Rowe due to technical problems and we then had only 4 emus left.
Looking at all the stats we were beating several teams up until about 3/4 of the race where it looks like we tired a bit. We ended up 2nd in the Cryo Latte Teams and 12th in latte overall.
Probably our best ride to date even though we had only 5 riders.
Looking forward to being back in the Premier League again next week.
